Russell Wilson gets injured early in the season

Hello, I am Mr. Obvious here. The absolute worst thing that can happen for the Seahawks now and in the future is that Russell Wilson gets injured and misses a lot of time. Wilson has missed but just two practices and no games since his career began in 2012. At some point, every player gets injured.

In 2019, Seattle would have won maybe four games without Wilson. He makes the team greater than the sum of its parts. Wilson is in most games the best player, and almost always the most important player, on the field.

Let’s imagine the 2020 season as it is currently. Seattle could easily make the playoffs, and with luck, make a long playoff run. But even with Wilson in 2019, the Seahawks outscored other teams by just a combined 7 points. In other words, as great as Russell Wilson is, Seattle’s season was decided by a touchdown.

Without Wilson, Seattle will finish at the bottom of their division as the NFC West is a tough bunch of teams. Every team in the Seahawks division would be better if they had Russell Wilson as their quarterback. But every other team would probably not be as bad without Wilson as Seattle would be without Wilson. If Russell Wilson goes down, so do the Seahawks.
