Seahawks should sign Darqueze Dennard, CB

The Seahawks have spent a lot of time and resources over the last 12 months to shore up their defensive back room. This ranges from drafting Ugo Amadi and Marquise Blair to trading for Quinton Dunbar and Quandre Diggs. Adding a player of Darqueze Dennard’s caliber to the room could be just what it takes to tip the scales.

Dennard has been one of the best slot cornerbacks in the NFL over the last few seasons. Last season he allowed an NFL low completion percentage of just 48.6%. Dennard had 5 passes defended on 35 attempts.

PFF thinks very highly of Dennard’s work as well. He has graded between a 68 and 75 in each of the last 3 seasons. This is good for being in the top third of the league.

The two outside cornerback spots appear to be manned by Shaquill Griffin and Quinton Dunbar.  Tre Flowers serving as a valuable backup. Projecting the starting slot CB is a little more fuzzy. The current competition is between Ugo Amadi and Marquise Blair. I love Blair as a safety but neither of those two bring much excitement to the position.

Dennard has had somewhat of an injury history over the last few seasons. Hence, why he is still unsigned. Seattle could likely bring him in on a very low-cost contract (and low guaranteed deal). If he gets hurt, there is more than enough talent to step in. If he stays healthy, this may be the best secondary the Seahawks have had since the Legion of Boom.

Suggested contract: 1 year, $2.5 million
