Seahawks should sign: Damon Harrison, DT

The Seahawks have a hole on the defensive line. While a lot of attention is on the edge for the weakest position, I would argue that the defensive tackle is actually the biggest need. As it is currently the defensive tackle roster consists of Jarran Reed and Poona Ford. Then it falls off.

The remaining players range from a 6th round draft selection that has yet to play a down, to undrafted free agents. The remaining DT’s are Josh Avery (UDFA), Demarcus Christmas (6th round), Cedrick Lattimore (UDFA), Bryan Mone (UDFA).

While I am completely content with the thought of Ford and Reed being the starters, someone like Al Woods needs to be brought in. The position lacks any sure-fire depth.

This is where Damon Harrison comes into the picture. Harrison has been one of the upper echelon run-stuffing defensive tackles for the better part of 10 years. He is no longer the bonafide starter he once was. However, as a rotation piece, he could be just what the doctor ordered.

The only issue with this signing, Harrison is still trying to decide if he wants to continue playing. He has reportedly turned down multiple offers while he has mulled this over. He did say he would only consider playing for a true playoff contender. Which Seattle is.

Having the core of Reed, Ford and Harrison would bring enough confidence to the group that whatever defensive tackles are behind are just gravy.

Suggested contract: 1 year, $3.5 million
