5 Seattle Seahawks who will outplay their contracts in 2020
DT Poona Ford
2020 Cap Hit: $752,668
If you’re looking for pure value, look no further than Poona Ford. The Seahawks’ nose tackle has been a force since landing in Seattle in 2018 and continues to be overlooked as one of the league’s best interior run defenders.
Sure, he’s not a great pass rusher. Through his first two NFL seasons, he’s managed only half a sack and regularly gets poor marks for his (in)ability to get after the quarterback. However, that’s not really what you’re looking for in a nose tackle. What you want is superior run-stuffing abilities, which is exactly what Ford brings to the table.
And all of that for only $752K? That’s quite the deal if you ask me.
Ford entered the league as an undrafted rookie out of Texas and caught on with the Seahawks because of his wrecking ball-esque play in the middle. He’s not going to blow you away with athleticism or size (he’s only 5’11”), but he more than makes up for it with a relentless motor and power at the point of attack.
Ford will be a restricted free agent next offseason, meaning the Seahawks can retain him without having to hand him a huge pay raise. And yet, if he continues to play the way he did in 2019, I wouldn’t be surprised if they find a way to reward him handsomely for his efforts.
