1. How will COVID-19 affect the 2020 NFL Season?

We are headed into the most unique situation the NFL has possibly ever seen as many questions will be left unanswered for weeks in terms of how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the 2020 season. Will the season start on time? How will testing work? Will the MLB model of no bubble work for the NFL as well? Will new cases slow down to a level that we can even have a football season in the fall? These are all questions that we will have no answer for a while.

The first one to look out for will be how the MLB season works. It has been reported by a variety of different people that the NFL wants to do their season like the MLB, with teams traveling to play home and away games. The only fact that we know on this front is that the NFL has moved all games outside the US (England, Mexico) to the team’s home stadiums. We will have to wait and see how successful the MLB model of not keeping everyone in a bubble works out to give us an idea of if it can work for the NFL.

It has also been reported that the NFL is considering cutting player salaries to make up for potential ticket sales losses, which players did not take well on twitter. Another question specific to the Seahawks because of their home-field advantage with the 12’s and CenturyLink Field is will there be fans in attendance? Fellow FanSider Lee Vowell analyzed what a half-full CenturyLink Field would be like, but now the likelier option seems to be no fans at all.

This would obviously be a big blow to the Seahawks who always have a loud home-field advantage, but there is no precedent to this situation that could preview how no fans, compared to a full stadium, could affect the Seahawks opponents in Seattle. Like with everything else surrounding COVID-19 and sports, we can only just hope.
