Bleacher Report says the Seahawks will win the NFC West in 2020
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks were a good team in 2019 but should be better in 2020. How good? Bleacher Report expects Seattle to win the NFC West.
Bleacher Report and their group of “experts” posted a prediction of which team will win each NFL division on Friday and the Seahawks were projected to be the NFC West kings of 2020. Among a group of five people making the predictions, three of them had Seattle beating the 49ers and taking the division.
Of course, Seattle recently traded for First-Team All-Pro safety Jamal Adams and Adams should help change the Seahawks defense from a not-good one to one that helps the offense in winning football games this season. But Adams isn’t the main reason Bleacher Report’s committee chose Seattle. Russell Wilson, as it should be, is.
Bleacher Report wrote, “But (Seattle’s) hopes in 2020 rest where they have since 2012: with quarterback Russell Wilson.” And, “…while Jimmy Garoppolo and Jared Goff are good and Kyler Murray is ascending, Wilson is the gold standard under center in the NFC West.”
Both statements are right and true. Russell Wilson has been the singular reason the Seahawks have been a football team that has made the playoffs in most of the last few seasons. He makes the team better than the sum of its parts would indicate they should be.
Seahawks can be very good
But Seattle also came very close to overtaking a very good 49ers team in 2019 for the division crown despite having an extremely ineffective pass rush and being completely destroyed by injuries in the running back unit at the end of the season. With a little luck and a lot of health, the Seahawks are worthy of winning their division.
If Adams can be his usual productive self and Seattle can improve their pass rush just a bit, the Seahawks could get to the Super Bowl.
Among other division winners predicted by Bleacher Report are the Buffalo Bills (AFC East), Baltimore Ravens (AFC North), Houston Texans (AFC South), Kansas City Chiefs (AFC West), Philadelphia Eagles (NFC East), Minnesota Vikings (NFC North) and New Orleans Saints (NFC South).
