New Seahawks safety Jamal Adams respects the lore of Seattle’s Legion of Boom. But he wants to tear up the memory and start a new era.

The King is dead. Long live the King! Or kings. After all, this is all proverbial anyway. The Seahawks had the Legion of Boom during the glory years of the mid-2010s. But the three main players who made up the group – Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas – are all gone. But the pieces to rebuild the ashes of the LOB are currently on the Seahawks roster and new safety Jamal Adams wants to do just that.

In last week’s highly interesting Zoom meeting with Jamal Adams, Seahawks press learned several things. But one of them was this from Adams

"But, you know, again, (the Legion of Boom’s) chapter is over with. And we have to, as a defensive group and as a defensive-back group, we have to create our own legacy, right?"

Yes, the Seahawks secondary needs to be the basis of the Seattle defense. Seattle is loaded at linebacker with Bobby Wagner and others, the defensive line still needs a bit of help, but when Seattle was great it was because the secondary would shut down and punish the receivers of your favorite team.

If all works out for the Seahawks in 2020, meaning Quinton Dunbar can actually play, then the 2020 group that makes up Seattle’s secondary is athletically as gifted as the Legion of Boom’s was.

Shaquill Griffin isn’t as good as Richard Sherman was and, maybe, is, but it’s close. Quinton Dunbar, and heck maybe even Tre Flowers, is better than anybody who was opposite Sherman. Quandre Diggs isn’t Earl Thomas but few are. Jamal Adams is more versatile than Kam Chancellor.

According to Pro Football Focus, Dunbar was the second-best cornerback in the NFL in 2019. Griffin was the 10th-best. Adams was the fifth-highest graded safety. Diggs was 22nd-best out of 85. This is a talented group.

The new Seahawks LOB

Basically, Seattle’s secondary could be as good as it was during the Legion of Boom’s best days. This says a lot as that secondary is arguably the best secondary in the history of the NFL. And it’s important to note that Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is likely the best secondary coach in the annals of the league and can make any group better.

What a Jamal Adams extension with Seahawks might look like. dark. Next

So, yeah, Jamal Adams respects the former Legion of Boom but also wants to remake Seattle’s image and burn his legacy into it as well. He’s a great player and he will make the Seahawks overall defense better. Can he also help make a Legion of Boom 2.0? Of course. To doubt him you do so only at risk of your football soul.
