Round 2 Pick 60: Golden Tate: B

Golden Tate was a little bit of a divisive player with the Seahawks. He was also ill-used, though. Wide receiver Tate needed to leave Seattle when he signed as a free agent with the Lions in 2014. The relationship with Tate and other players in the Seattle locker room seemed to have diminished to a point where he would not have been a good presence in future seasons.

Tate also has since stated that Matthew Stafford is the best quarterback he has ever played with. Of course, Tate might have meant this as a dig towards Eagles quarterback Nick Foles as Tate briefly played with the Eagles before signing with the Giants in 2019. Either way, Tate’s relationship with Russell Wilson has always been in question and clearly Tate is wrong that Stafford is better than Wilson.

That said, Tate is a good receiver but he never would have been able to produce great results in a more run-oriented Seahawks offense. By far the highest amount of targets he had in Seattle was the 99 he got in 2013. Between 2014 and 2018 with other teams, Tate averaged 128 targets a season. A year after leaving Seattle, he had 1,331 yards receiving with the Lions and made the only Pro Bowl of his career.

Tate did have one very memorable play as a Seahawk, however, when he caught a game-winning touchdown pass on Monday Night Football versus the Packers. Cheeseheads probably to this day still dispute that Tate caught the ball. But the play stood and Seattle won the game.
