Russell Wilson is great but Mr. Unlimited is not

Russell Wilson seems like a good person and is a special quarterback. But his Mr. Unlimited alter ego needs to simply go away.

Russell Wilson is the reason the Seattle Seahawks are a football team good enough to make the postseason nearly every year. But his alter ego Mr. Unlimited is a cringe-worthy stand-in. You remember, 12s, how in 2018 Russell Wilson posted a video of himself in Mr. Unlimited role answering questions about Russell Wilson. Well, sadly, Wilson has brought the character back this week.

I think, for me, the problem with Mr. Unlimited, other than the character is dismissing Wilson for what he is – a good person who isn’t as effervescent as some fans want their favorite team’s quarterback to be – is the voice. Wilson is not a good actor but he shouldn’t need to be. He plays football for a living; He doesn’t make films.

But the way he says Mr. Unlimited, almost taking a breath in before he says the name of the character, is just weird. Like, “OK, we get that’s the character’s name and we might be as fans alright with it, but could you please say it in any other way?”

New Mr. Unlimited video

Just, please? Especially if this is a character that’s going to be recurring from time to time. However, I do like the latest Cable Thanos video of Wilson. That is, everything except for the Mr. Unlimted part.

Now, I am certainly in no position to tell someone they shouldn’t do something. I mean, who am I to judge? But immediate reaction to Wilson being Mr. Unlimited two years ago was mocking and mean. Why bring the character back again?

Or maybe it just shows that Russell Wilson is a human being just like everyone else. He makes unimportant mistakes sometimes and then doubles-down on them. But in the case of “Mr…Mr. Unlimited,” that guy just needs to go.
