Three reasons Seahawks may not reach potential in 2020

Ken Norton, Jr.
A team can give their coaches all kinds of talent but unless a coach knows how to use said talent there is no guarantee for success. Ken Norton, Jr. has not proven to be a good defensive coordinator during any of his near-six seasons trying to do so. Three of those years were with the Raiders. He failed. Norton, Jr. has been the DC for Seattle for two years. He has failed.
I have absolutely no faith that Norton, Jr. will know how to successfully use all the shiny toys the Seahawks have given him. Seattle will have a new All-Pro safety in Jamal Adams and a very good cornerback in Quinton Dunbar. The Seahawks have probably the best linebacker group in the league. The defensive line might be an issue or maybe, with proper coaching, the young guys will be fine.
With the Raiders, Norton, Jr.’s defenses ranked anywhere from 20 to 22 in points given up. Since coming to the Seahawks, Seattle’s defenses ranked 11th in Norton, Jr.’s first year as Seattle DC in 2018. But in 2019 they were 22nd. Seattle has gotten worse. And no matter how many shiny new toys, like Jamal Adams, Seattle gives Norton, Jr., if he doesn’t know how to use them it does the Seahawks no good.
If the Seahawks defense is no better at the beginning of 2020, it will be enough to possibly keep Seattle out of the playoffs and the fault will be with the coaching. Norton, Jr. should be fired by week five if Seattle is weak on defense and Pete Carroll should take over the defense at that point.
