Seahawks will be without Chris Carson in Saturday’s mock game
By Lee Vowell
The Seattle Seahawks will host their first mock game on Saturday. But leading rusher Chris Carson will not be on the field.
Chris Carson will not be on the CenturyLink Field turf on Saturday when the Seattle Seahawks take part in the first mock game of 2020. But it is not because Carson is hurt. He is dealing with a family matter and should be back next week for Seattle.
Carson, who has led the Seahawks in rushing the past two seasons, and likely would have in 2017 as well had he not gotten injured, missed the first four days of training camp because he was attending the funeral of a family member. But according to coach Pete Carroll, “There’s a couple of other things that have happened.”
Carson appears to be fine physically but clearly needs some time to take care of off-the-field issues. Clearly, life takes precedent over football and this is how it should be for any human being. Hopefully for Carson, whatever issues Carson’s family is dealing with are something he can help remedy.
Seahawks mock game
The Seahawks play their first intrateam mock game on Saturday at 1:30 pm PT at CenturyLink Field. Carroll said the team is treating this as more of a preseason game setting, hence the reason for holding the scrimmage at CenturyLink, in lieu of real live-game action.
Due to COVID-19, NFL teams are not competing in preseason games. This means mock scrimmages like the Seahawks are having on Saturday are even more important to players trying to earn a roster spot. Players like potential running back backup DeeJay Dallas.
Chris Carson wasn’t really needing to play in the mock scrimmage as it is. His roster spot is sealed. But what other players might need to step up should Carson be injured as he was in 2019 will be determined in these types of practices.
