Seahawks stud number 2: Damien Lewis, Right guard

I wanted to follow an offensive lineman dud, with an offensive lineman stud. The Seahawks have been god awful at bring in offensive line talent for years. However, it looks like they finally struck on a player. Right guard Damien Lewis looks like the future of the offensive line.

Damien Lewis was the Seahawks third round draft pick in the 2020 draft. Pick number 69 to be precise. The only other Seahawk to ever be selected with this pick is current wide receiver Tyler Lockett. Its safe to say that selection worked out. It is early, but it looks like Lewis is going to work out just about as well.

From the first day of practice, Lewis has been one of the most consistent offensive lineman on the field. He has displayed great footwork, nature leverage, solid hand placement and more than anything, an absolutely insane amount of power.

The offensive line is so new, that there is competition everywhere. I mean, Pete Carroll loves his competition. However, not a single player has come even remotely close to unseating Lewis for that starting right guard spot.

The best part about it, he appears to be developing a really strong chemistry with new right tackle Brandon Shell. This is incredibly important as the two will need to be in sync at all times for the right side of the line to be effective.

Veteran offensive line stud Duane Brown sung Damien Lewis some high praise:

"He had to learn everything at home. He was really able to retain a lot of information and be able to see him physical in practice in 1 on 1s, he’s been stellar. We have a good group of defensive lineman. They make us work, and (Lewis) has shown a lot of ability. He’s strong, plays with great leverage and can move well. We’ve had a lot of guys that have been standing out. Him stepping in as a rookie in his first NFL action, hes been that guy to me."

Duane Brown isn’t the only person that has taken notice. Russell Wilson has lauded Lewis’s leadership, ability to learn the playbook and apply it to practice field. Coach Carroll has been really high on Lewis’s field vision. He said that Lewis has been phenomenal at picking up blitz’s.

For the Seahawks to be successful this year, the offensive line will need to be vastly improved. Let’s hope this transitions to the actual games. If Damien Lewis keeps going as he has been, he could be a future All-Pro right guard. Again, i know it is early in his career. However, the time to board the Damien Lewis hype train is now.
