The Seahawks are always in search of more talent. But on Wednesday they might be looking to bring back Justin Britt and Paul Richardson.

Reportedly, the Seattle Seahawks are kicking the proverbial tires on maybe re-signing two familiar faces. One is center Justin Britt, who was injured halfway through 2019 and then was released this offseason. The other is former Seahawks receiver Paul Richardson.

I totally get maybe bringing Britt back. He is a big and strong center who clearly knows the Seahawks offense as he has been a part of the offensive line in Seattle for six seasons and started all but one game until her got hurt in week 8 of last year. He has been a Pro Bowl alternate once.

The obvious issues with Britt coming back are two-fold. One, how much money would he want? Before being released, Britt was going to be paid $8.5 million. Seattle overpaid for him in free agency in 2017. He’s a decent center but he isn’t that good. Seattle will owe Britt $1.2 million already if he doesn’t sign with another team before week 1. He would be owed that money with a failed physical designation.

The other issue with signing Britt is it could be a sign that the Seahawks really aren’t happy with how their current centers are working out. Seattle brought in B.J. Finney to potentially replace Britt but maybe Seattle sees Finney as a better fit at guard? And Ethan Pocic would likely be a roster cut if Britt re-signs.

If the Seahawks can get Britt to re-sign for $2 million or less, it would help with offensive line cohesion and wouldn’t hurt the cap number very much.

Paul Richardson?

The more quizzical potential signing is Paul Richardson. He is an oft-injured receiver who has played a full season just once in his career – 2017. In three seasons, Richardson has played 10 games or fewer. He has played six years in the NFL.

Richardson is also more of an outside receiver and Seattle has Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf on the outside already. Plus, if Seattle is going to re-sign someone, I would rather it be Josh Gordon. Which means, of course, that Richardson will be on the Seahawks roster in week 1.
