Predicting Seahawks receivers after Paul Richardson signing
By Lee Vowell
Here is our latest guess at who makes the Seattle Seahawks 2020 roster as a receiver.
Some 12s may have thought that the Seattle Seahawks would sign Josh Gordon this offseason. But other 12s thought maybe there was a possibility that Seattle brought in Antonio Brown. So far, neither of those has happened. But Seattle did bring back a familiar face on Saturday by signing Paul Richardson.
Richardson, if healthy, gives the Seahawks another deep threat for Russell Wilson‘s bombs. But who else should 12s see the Seahawks put on the field at receiver?
Starters
Clearly, Metcalf and Lockett are going to be out wide, though Seattle will probably use Lockett in the slot at times too. His speed and quickness make it difficult for teams to match up against him if Seattle is always moving him around. Metcalf is a burgeoning star who could have 12 touchdown catches or more in 2020.
I believe Dorsett is the starter in the slot as he is Seattle’s only pure slot receiver who has any real NFL experience. He is extremely fast and should be the kind of safety valve for Wilson that gets 30 catches in 2020.
Backups
Paul Richardson
Freddie Swain
John Ursua
The question with the backups is whether the Seahawks choose to keep David Moore instead of Swain or Ursua. I think Swain makes the team for his versatility due to being able to return kicks and punts.
Cut
David Moore
Penny Hart
Cody Thompson
Moore should be cut. He has had some interesting moments for Seattle in his three years with the team, but also disappears for games on end. He will catch on somewhere, though, so he won’t make the Seattle practice squad.
Practice squad
Aaron Fuller
Fuller has been pretty good in training camp but the undrafted free agent has a more difficult time of making the team because he won’t see any action in preseason games. He will likely be on the active roster at some point this year or next but he will start on the practice squad.
