3. Los Angeles Rams

Some Rams fans are very excited about the Rams’ secondary in 2020. They have every right to be.

Jalen Ramsey is obviously a top cornerback in the league and was traded from Jacksonville to Los Angeles mid-season last year, which took some adjusting to. Across from him is Troy Hill. Hill is an up-and-coming corner in the league and showed an underrated performance in 2019. He took over for Marcus Peters (traded to Baltimore) and Aqib Talib (traded to Miami) and only allowed a 45.6% completion percentage against opposing quarterbacks.

By the end of the season, the Rams ranked 9th in total defense DVOA (-6.4%) and 10th in pass defense (-1.3%). They also allowed a 61.9% completion percentage and 38 touchdowns—23 of which were passing touchdowns.

There’s a lot of depth on this team and I would expect the defense to outperform the offense greatly.

One play to become excited about is rookie safety, Terrell Burgess. The Rams drafted him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of the University of Utah. While in college, he had 116 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and one interception. He’s a tremendous athlete but often struggles to close in on the ball. It will be interesting to see how the Rams play him.

The biggest key here is how well Ramsey and Hill will hold down. They have the potential to be one of the best cornerback tandems in the NFL and should already be considered in that category.
