Seahawks Darrell Taylor and Stephen Sullivan likely to start on injured list
By Lee Vowell
Hopefully, the Seahawks weren’t looking for a huge rookie impact to start 2020 because several are injured.
12s already can safely assume that second-round pick Darrell Taylor will start the year on the non-football injury list. Taylor suffered a leg injury in college and the Seahawks has been extremely cautious with him so far and have kept him out of training camp. Rookie tight end Stephen Sullivan is out with a hip injury.
Both of these players, plus rookie tight end Colby Parkinson, are likely to start the season by not playing. And because of COVID-19 affecting training camp schedules and preseason, rookies, in general, will have a tough time acclimating to the speed and intensity of the NFL. This means their potential initial impact is very limited.
The Seahawks are probably going to start one rookie, Damien Lewis. But Lewis plays a position he is already familiar with and a position where it is an easier fit in the NFL. He also hasn’t missed time in what limited training camp there has been.
Darrell Taylor unlikely to play this year?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor doesn’t play at all in 2020. Fortunately, fellow rookie edge rusher Alton Robinson has looked decent in camp and will probably get a lot of the snaps Taylor would have had. Seattle also signed veterans like Bruce Irvin to help fix the pass rush that was terrible in 2019.
Still, a team having a second-round choice hurts. Early round choices should be able to help their teams quickly and Taylor is an edge rusher and Seattle needs all those they can get. Seattle has tried to fix the pass rush with quantity over proven quality for the most part.
The tight end room will be fine without Sullivan and Parkinson, however. Will Dissly and Greg Olsen will make sure of that. Jacob Hollister is probably going to help too.
