The Seahawks play the Patriots in week two and this is what our staff thinks will happen.

After an exciting 38-25 win in week one, the Seahawks appear to be set for a pretty good year. If most of the key players can stay healthy, good things should happen. But what will happen in week two when Seattle plays the New England Patriots? Here are our staff’s best guesses.

Since the Pete Carroll era in Seattle, the Seahawks are 29-6-1 in primetime games. They are 19-2 in home primetime games. Although there will be no fans in attendance for this game, I see the Seattle defense shining bright under the lights. After coming off a victory over the Atlanta Falcons, I see the Seahawks allowing Russ to keep cooking.

But, I see the defense being the talking point on Monday morning. The shining star of the game will be none other than All-Pro safety Jamal Adams. Going up against a weak New England offense, I see this primetime game as an opportunity for this Seattle defense to make a statement to the rest of the world.

There has been a lot of chatter about the weakness of the defensive line and although it may be true, I see the Seahawks defense absolutely taking over in this game. They will be able to force one fumble and force two interceptions, giving Russell Wilson extra opportunities at pay der. Ones in which he will capitalize on as he never disappoints in primetime games, especially at home. I got our Seahawks starting off the season 2-0.

The Seahawks new “Let Russ cook” offense was incredible last week, but against the Patriots I imagine Seattle will revert back somewhat to the establish the run offense. On offense I expect a bad day from DK, with Gilmore on him, and Lockett should be able to have a decent day in the slot. Carson will have a great day rushing however on 15+ attempts. On defense, the new look Patriots led by Cam Newton might face a rough night at the office with Wagner and Wright spying Newton making him one dimensional. Newton is also a foe that Seattle has seen often in the NFC so Pete should be prepared. I envision a back and forth slow game with the rushing attacks controlling the game. This one will come down to whoever gets the big turnover or the big play late.

The Sunday Night Football theme sounds better to my ears when the game is live from CenturyLink field and it feels like the Seahawks play better too. I believe that although Cam Newton is still a threat, he lacks the receiving core that could punish Seattle. Last week Matt Ryan had three players go for over 100+ receiving yards and the Falcons still struggled. Cam Newton does not have a Julio Jones and I think that will be the biggest reason why Seattle prevails and pushes their record to 2-0.

Both Seattle and New England had promising wins in week one of the 2020 NFL season. Teams didn’t know exactly what to expect with Cam Newton’s comeback and especially with how the Patriots would fair without Tom Brady leading them. On Seattle’s side, Russell Wilson and the passing stepped up on the offensive side of the ball while Jamal Adams secured the defensive side of the ball.

The biggest thing Seattle is going to need to look for against New England is how often the Patriots decide to let Cam Newton keep the ball in his hands. In week one, Newton had 15 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Seattle’s run defense is going to need prioritizing keeping Cam immobile. If they can do that, they can secure the victory.

When the Seahawks take on the Patriots in their home opener, it will be their first meeting in four years. Under Pete Carroll, Seattle is 2-1 versus New England, and no, I’m not going to go into that -1. The Pats still play the same style as always, with one major exception: Cam Newton has replaced the Deflator at quarterback.

There’s no doubt he’s a dangerous player; there’s also no doubt that he’s 1-6 versus the Seahawks in his career. The Pats have several dangerous players, but so do the Hawks. And yeah, I’m gonna say it; we have the most DangeRuss player of all. Look for more than a few collisions between Newton and Adams, and look for a Seatle win.

Something about the Seahawks performance in week one gave me hope that this team could be really good. It could be that the team simply started really well offensively for once to start a season. Or that Jamal Adams brings an energy that is infectious and sorely needed by Seattle’s defense.

Seattle has a lot of talent and the Patriots are missing quite a bit after offseason opt-outs. Still, the Patriots have Bill Belichick and he will find a way to get the most out of his players and keep Seattle guessing at what scheme New England is going to run with. One thing even Belichick can’t account for, though: Russell Wilson magic. Seattle wins a low-scoring game.
