The Seattle Seahawks held on to beat the New England Patriots in week two.

In a game that ended up being a lot closer than it should have, the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 35-30 to move to 2-0 in the 2020 season. Seattle still needs to fix its pass rush somehow but because of Russell Wilson, Seattle remains a team that can make a deep playoff run.

And aren’t 12s lucky to have Wilson as their favorite team’s quarterback? He is playing like the MVP for which he has never gotten a vote. On Sunday, Wilson had five more touchdown passes to five different players. The offense simply looks different this season. Possibly because Wilson has a bit more say in the calls for Seattle or maybe just because the team’s offensive talent is better.

Wilson now has 9 touchdown passes on the year and one interception. The interception, of course, was not his fault. Early in the game, Wilson threw a perfect pass to Greg Olsen who saw the ball bounce of his hands into the hands of Devin McCourty who returned the pick for a touchdown of 43 yards.

Seattle and New England then traded touchdowns until the third quarter when New England took the lead on a field goal. The Seahawks then scored two straight touchdowns to take a 28-17 lead before the teams traded touchdowns again. New England scored with 2:16 left and trailed 35-30.

Seahawks receivers

Seattle ran on the first two plays of their next drive before trying a long pass that went incomplete to Tyler Lockett. The miss from Wilson to Lockett was the first time this season Lockett didn’t catch one of his targets. Before that he and Wilson had gone 15 for 15.

Also proving that he is a great receiver was D.K. Metcalf. Metcalf faced 2019 Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore and ended up with 4 catches on 6 targets for 92 yards and a 54-yard touchdown before half. Metcalf is going to be a great player and we are watching it unfold each week.

Still, New England had the ball with 3 seconds left and on the Seahawks 1-yard line. Patriots quarterback Cam Newton had played well and everyone in the stadium – albeit one with fans because of COVID-19 – knew Newton was going to run the ball.

But when it mattered the Seahawks defense finally made a stop. Several players were able to get penetration as Newton ran to his left and he was stopped for a loss.

Next. Seahawks should sign these defensive tackles today. dark

This game really came down to the greatness of Russell Wilson, however. He is now 3-1 against the Patriots in his career. For the 2020 season, Wilson has a quarterback rating over 135 and he is on pace for 72 touchdown passes. He won’t get that many probably but 50 isn’t out of the question. Letting Russ cook is clearly working this year.
