After the first month of football, we take a look at what the best division in the NFL looks like (hint, the Seahawks are in first place).

September is over, October is here and before we know it, the playoffs will be on the helm. To begin the month of Halloween, there is a new first-place team in the NFC West: Seattle Seahawks.

Last week, the NFC West went undefeated in Week 2 of play and this week, they went 2-2 in which the two teams that lost (Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles) had a chance to win the game. Regardless, the NFC West is the only division in the NFL with each team having a record above .500.

From the beginning, it was suggested that this division would be the best in football and they have yet to disappoint. Before we diverge into the month of October, let’s take a quick recap of Week 3.

Week 3 Recap:

Buffalo Bills defeat Los Angeles Rams, 35-32

This game is in contention for game of the week as the Rams almost completed one hell of a comeback. Down 28-3 in the third quarter, the Rams rallied all the way back taking the lead late in the fourth, 32-28. The Bills answered on a long drive down the field that involved some controversy as they received a pass interference call on fourth down that would otherwise have made the Rams the winner of this one. After the pass interference call, the Bills scored on a play-action fake to take the lead and ultimately win the game.

San Francisco 49ers defeat New York Giants, 36-9

The San Francisco 49ers were coming off a game where they dealt with numerous injuries on both sides of the ball. In their Week 3 game against the Giants, QB Jimmy Garoppolo, HB Raheem Mostert and TE George Kittle were sidelined, but they still managed to score 36 points. In what was a close game at halftime, the Niners defense was able to force some turnovers in the second half to grow their lead. Without many key players, the Niners looked well-coached and picked up their second straight victory in MetLife Stadium.

Detroit Lions defeat Arizona Cardinals, 26-23

The Detroit Lions would be 2-1 if it weren’t for a drop by rookie HB Deandre Swift in Week 1 against the Bears. The Lions were able to put a stop to the undefeated Arizona Cardinals mainly because they forced Kyler Murray into throwing 3 interceptions. Thus far in the season, Murray has thrown an interception in each of his first three games. A tendency he does not want to continue as the season progresses. Lions K Matt Prater hit the game-winning field goal to give the Lions their first win of the season.

Seattle Seahawks defeat Dallas Cowboys, 38-31

In America’s Game of the Week, the red hot Russell Wilson led his team to victory by throwing 5 more touchdowns. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to record 14 touchdowns in the first three weeks of the regular season. The Cowboys showed tremendous fight in this one trailing by 15 in the second half coming back to take the lead in the 4th. But, Wilson did what he does best in the 4th quarter: lead a game-winning game drive. The Seahawks were in another thrilling game and managed to pull out the victory to make their 1 score record in 2020, 2-0.

Week 4 Preview:

Seattle Seahawks (-6.5) @ Miami Dolphins

The red hot Seattle Seahawks head down to Miami to take on a Dolphin team that just picked up their first victory of the year. The Seahawks might be short-handed as they are dealing with numerous injuries on both sides of the ball, but I do not see this Dolphins team being the one to slow down Russell Wilson. Wilson is on a historical pace this year and I expect another big game from him Sunday. I got the Seahawks winning by at least 10.

Arizona Cardinals (-3.5) @ Carolina Panthers

The Cardinals are coming off their first loss of the year and will be facing a team in Carolina that has yet to find their identity. The Panthers are coming off a nice win against the Chargers in LA, but will probably be without Christian McCaffrey again this week. That significantly hurts their chances as they will be facing an angry Cardinal team looking to bounce back. I expect a big game from Hopkins and have the Cardinals winning by a touchdown.

New York Giants @ Los Angeles Rams (-13)

The Los Angeles Rams will be hosting their second game of the year in their brand new, Sofi Stadium. They are a heavy favorite over a Giants team that just got demolished in Week 3 against the Niners. While the Giants are without HB Saquon Barkley and did not perform to the best of their ability last week, I do not see another blow out on the helm. I like the Rams to win this one, but I’ll take the points on the Giants as the underdog.

Philadelphia Eagles @ San Francisco 49ers (-7)

The San Francisco 49ers should be back at somewhat full strength this week as it was announced yesterday, TE George Kittle will be active for Sunday Night Football. They will be facing a desperate Eagles team who has yet to win a game this year. Last year down Wentz stretch played great in “must-win” games and this week, he is presented with a similar situation as the Eagles have their backs up against the wall. I got the Eagles outright winning this game by 3.
