Seahawks week four MVP: Chris Carson leads the way
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks moved to 4-0 by defeating the Dolphins in large part because of Chris Carson.
The Seahawks offense wasn’t as fluid in week four but Seattle still scored 31 points and had 441 total yards. Russell Wilson was good but not great. Seattle’s defense was mostly iffy again. But Seattle defeated the Dolphins because they had Chris Carson.
Carson gained 80 yards rushing on 16 carries and had another 20 yards receiving. Carson scored two touchdowns rushing. A lot of his yards came right between the tackles when Carson would burst through and then carry defenders another few yards. And when Seattle needed to run the clock out at the end of the game, they handed the ball three straight times to Carson.
Early in the game was hit hard and appeared to have hurt his neck or head and had to leave the game. But Carson is a tough player. He was injured last week against the Cowboys but was able to play this week and he performed at a high level. Carson is in a contract year and Seattle needs to find the money to re-sign him.
Chris Carson just what the Seahawks needed
Seattle was without Carlos Hyde, Carson’s backup, in week four. The Seahawks did give reps to Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas (who looked pretty good when he got the ball), but Carson was the alpha as Seattle needed him to be. Carson’s ability to create yards when nothing is there was extremely important on his touchdown runs and on third-and-three at the end of the game.
Most backs would have been stopped short. Chris Carson wasn’t. And because Seattle has Carson they were able to win the game and start 4-0 for the first time since 2013. That also happens to be the year the Seahawks ended up winning the Super Bowl. Maybe it will happen again this season.
