Seattle Seahawks: 5 takeaways from win versus Dolphins
By Jake Luppino
The Seattle secondary finally showed up
The secondary once again was shorthanded without Jamal Adams, Quinton Dunbar and Lano Hill. But, they absolutely balled out yesterday. The young second-year cornerback out of Oregon, Ugo Adami, has been done a fantastic job replacing the role of Marquise Blair as nickelback. Last week against the Cowboys, the Seattle secondary allowed numerous big plays down the field, letting Dallas get back into the game and even take the lead in the fourth quarter.
In Sunday’s win over the Dolphins, once again playing with the lead, the Seattle defense allowed 0 big plays down the field. They did what Coach Carroll and what defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr., wanted them to do: leave everything in front. Miami tried taking advantage by throwing the slants and the hitches, which Seattle gave up, but they never let them sneak behind the coverage for a big play.
The Dolphins did indeed pass for over 300 yards in the air, but the Seattle defense forced two interceptions and held them to a field goal nearly every time they drove down the field. Late in the game, Fitzpatrick found his way into the end zone, but at that point, the game was practically over.
In fact, the Seahawks secondary earned its first A grade from me in grading this week’s game.
Prior to the game, CB Shaquill Griffin gave a fiery speech to his teammates.
Shaq Griffin and Ryan Neal have now had back to back weeks with interceptions. This Ryan Neal kid is earning his stripes with this Seattle defense. In the win, he was all over the field. Although he bit hard on a play-action fake and got beat in coverage, I love the intensity and effort in which he plays with.
This Seahawks secondary is going to turn it around once they get healthy again.
