Trade target: Zach Ertz, TE

Yeah I know, I am going for an already stacked position. However, as I mentioned in the previous slide the Eagles are desperately hurting for salary cap space. Zach Ertz has underperformed this year. Speculation says this is mainly due to issues he has had with the team’s management and therefore lack of interest.

Seattle has 3 very slid tight ends already on the roster. Between Greg Olsen, Jacob Hollister and Will Dissly the team is set. However, wouldn’t it be worthwhile to see what it would cost to upgrade? Ertz is coming off 3 straight seasons with at least 6 touchdowns. He also has a combined 2903 yards over that span with a 70% catch percentage. All truly elite numbers.

He is under contract through next season as well. A big part of the dispute Ertz had with the Eagles management is his current contract. However, given his current level of play, issues with management and an opportunity to play for a true contender like Seattle, you have to wonder if he would suck it up and play out the contract.

After all, this would give him a season and a half being thrown to by an elite quarterback who loves his tight ends in Russell Wilson. It could help his market value tremendously.

Trading Hollister would help in a few ways. First, it gives the Eagles a young capable tight end to pair with Dallas Goedert. It also helps both teams fit the cap exchange. Finally, it helps Seattle reduce the log jam at the tight end position.

This would keep Greg Olsen as the number one TE, slide Ertz as the number 2 and Dissly back to the number 3. Knowing Olsen is likely retiring this year and enables Ertz to have a half a season to gain chemistry with Russell Wilson before he slides into that number 1 role. Who knows, maybe Ertz even unseats Olsen this year. There is no doubt he is still a great player. Just simply one who is in need of a change.
