Seahawks defense will be much better after the bye week

The Seahawks defense has been bad through week five but it will be better starting in week seven.

Seattle is 5-0 for the first time in franchise history. The Seahawks offense has been great but the defense, well not so much. But here is the thing, 12s. Seattle’s defense is going to be better starting in week seven and might actually win a game or two for Seattle in the last half of the season. Admittedly, I have no reason for this faith but I have to believe it nonetheless.

I do have reasons for this believe

The first reason is health. (By the way, this will play into reason number 2.) Jamal Adams has missed the last two games and a lot of the game before that. So while he has made an impression on the Seahawks with his ability to blitz and play the run, his impact has been limited. Once he is back, and assuming the rest of the secondary remains healthy, the backend of the Seattle defense will be better.

Plus, Rasheem Green – and no, he hasn’t been a huge sack artist in his career but did lead Seattle with 4 in 2019 – will be back after the bye week. Seattle wanted depth at rushing the passer coming into this season and Green will add to that. And he’s good against the run.

Heck, maybe even second round draft pick Darrell Taylor (you remember him, right?) and first round Jordyn Brooks get back to playing football. They won’t need to play a majority of snaps. They just need to contribute.

Playing together

This is important. Defenses and offensive lines must play together to form cohesion. Communication is the key to both units being successful. The Seahawks secondary has had Jamal Adams and Quinton Dunbar at different points in the season but not often playing together.

Seattle’s secondary, if healthy, will be much better after the bye week because of the talent of Shaquill Griffin, Dunbar, Adams, Quandre Diggs and even Ugo Amadi. But this group hasn’t yet formed cohesion because of injuries. We haven’t yet seen the Seahawks secondary fully healthy with its best players on the field.

Next. 5 things the Seahawks need to fix in the bye week. dark

Therefore, we haven’t seen the Seattle defense with its best defensive players relatively fully healthy on the field for any length of time. Cohesion is very important. Seattle’s offense at some point is going to need the defense to be good for an entire game. With better health, the Seahawks defense might be.
