Seattle Seahawks MVPs through the bye week of 2020
By Lee Vowell
Best rookie
Damien Lewis
Seattle has, for the most part, gotten inconsistent performances from most of its rookies in 2020. Freddie Swain has been good at times but those moments are fleeting. Defensive end Alton Robinson simply needs to play more. First round pick Jordyn Brooks has done OK but then got hurt. Second round choice Darrell Taylor has been hurt all year and hasn’t played.
But right guard Damien Lewis has been a beast. Lewis is the ninth-highest graded guard in the NFL this year, according to Pro Football Focus. He is the fourth-best graded guard when it comes to run-blocking. Simply put, Damien Lewis going to be an anchor on the offensive line for many years to come.
Biggest surprise
Ethan Pocic
We all thought the center position was going to B.J. Finney before the season started, didn’t we? Heck, I thought there was a chance that Pocic wouldn’t even make the team. But he has been very good so far in 2020, grading as the 14th-best center in the league in 2020.
Pocic has been much better than in any of his previous seasons. His grade of 69.1 in 2020 compares to his next best PFF grade of 50.4 from 2017. This might be due to Pocic just moving back to center, which was the position he played successfully in college. Whatever the reason Pocic is better, I am going to go ahead and assume he is Seattle’s starting center for several seasons (he is only 25 years old).
