The Seahawks lost in overtime to the Cardinals in week seven.

Between the second half of the Vikings game and the first half of the Cardinals game, the Seahawks offense scored 54 points. But in the second half and overtime on Sunday, Seattle scored 7 points. They lost to Arizona in a game that they played from ahead most of the way 37-34.

To be sure, Russell Wilson had his worst game of the year. He had two awful interceptions and a third that was not a great idea. Wilson did throw for 3 touchdowns but he seemed to get worse as the game went on.

The Seahawks had a strange offensive game plan really. Receiver D.K. Metcalf is a blossoming star but for most of the game, Wilson didn’t throw his way. Metcalf did end up with 5 targets but only had 2 through the third quarter. Tyler Lockett, on the other hand, was magnificent with 15 catches for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Chris Carson looked good early on but then was injured and the Seattle offense didn’t seem the same after that.

Seattle’s defense was not good once again. The Seahawks can simply put no pressure on opposing quarterbacks. There is no way Seattle wins a Super Bowl this season. A good team with a good quarterback would simply pick them apart in the playoffs. Seattle got exactly zero quarterback hits in the game. Zero. That’s inexcusable.

Wilson ended up being sacked twice and hit 9 times. In the third quarter, he was hit hard and wasn’t the same after that.

Turning point

But possibly the most damning play for Seattle was when the Cardinals settled for a field goal late in the fourth quarter that would have made the score 34-27. Arizona would have had all three timeouts left but would have had to score a touchdown. On the field goal attempt, Seattle lineman Benson Mayowa appeared to try to leap over a Cardinals lineman and got called for a personal foul. This gave the Cardinals a first down and Arizona went on to score a touchdown.

Next. Aldon Smith anyone?. dark

The play was stupid. And it was a big reason the Seahawks lost. That and two bad interceptions by Wilson. Now Seattle is 5-1 and plays the 49ers next week. Seattle will need to play a complete game to win in week 8 and they haven’t done that in a few weeks now.
