The Seahawks were finally handed their first loss of the season.

We knew it was coming eventually and of course, they had to go down in typical Seahawks fashion against a divisional opponent.

While it was disappointing to see them nab their first loss, at least it didn’t happen to a poor team. The Cardinals earned their victory in this one and there is a lot to take away from this game.

Takeaway #1: Russell Wilson was off his game

Seattle’s offense started off with a bang when Russell Wilson connected with Tyler Lockett on their opening drive to put the first points on the board. Lockett would go on to catch two more touchdowns for the Seahawks offense.

While Wilson managed to throw for 33/50, 388 yards, and three touchdowns, he also threw three interceptions, two of which were in crucial moments of the game. Ironically, this happened in the same stadium where he threw his infamous Super Bowl XLIX interception.

He seemed a bit off throughout the game and even uncharacteristically missed some throws that he would usually make. Next week, he’s got to find a way to make up for these lost throws.

Takeaway #2: BYE week didn’t teach the defense anything

The Seahawks now proceed into week eight at 5-1 but the only part of the team who deserves the praise for getting them there is the offense. The offense is the only one who has put in the work to succeed. The defense on the other hand has been relatively absent.

The Seahawks are among the bottom five teams in the league in yards allowed on defense. They had the entire BYE week to figure out their defensive struggles but came out empty. They still suffer from a lack of pass rush and poor secondary all while All-Pro safety Jamal Adams sits out with a groin injury and veteran run-stopper defensive tackle Damon Harrison remains on the bench.

Harrison has been out of football since he was released by the Lions earlier this year and he has had to go through the league’s COVID-19 protocols before joining the Seahawks in team activities. It makes sense for him to sit out the first few weeks but the Seahawks really needed him against the Cardinals.

Takeaway #3: Good luck going forward

There is a lot of work for Seattle going forward and hopefully, this game versus the Cardinals will be a wake-up call. What Russell Wilson has done for the Seahawks this season has likely foiled the teams’ perception of their struggles. Wilson has made up for the number of points that defense has given up, making them think things aren’t as bad as they are.

Changes need to be made now or Seattle doesn’t stand a chance against the tough teams they will face in the second half of the season. They still have five upcoming divisional games, three of which are in the next four weeks. Hopefully, when Adams comes back healthy and Harrison finds his place on the defensive line, this team will start seeing some changes.
