The Seattle Seahawks traded for Carlos Dunlap on Wednesday.

Let’s be honest, 12s. We thought that the Seahawks defense was going to be better this season even though we were not too sure who was going to consistently and successfully do so. Well, no one has done so in 2020 for Seattle. Carlos Dunlap has produced in his career, though, and Seattle tried to address their glaring weakness of inept pass rush by trading for Carlos Dunlap today.

But let’s also be real. Getting Dunlap is great if he comes in in shape and ready to produce straightaway. But Seattle needs more than just Carlos Dunlap. The Seahawks need another pass rusher too.

Maybe I am being a little greedy but if Seattle is going to reach and win a Super Bowl this year, then realistically Carlos Dunlap is not enough.

There is one thing that Seattle should not have to worry about with Carlos Dunlap and that is motivation. Dunlap will be going from a last-place team in the Cincinnati Bengals that strangely did not want to play him much as the season wore on to the first-place team in Seattle that desperately needs him to play a lot and do well. Dunlap posted on social media apparently during his former team’s game on Sunday that his house was going up for sale. He can sell that house now if he wants.

Seattle needs more

But Seattle needs to have other players sell their houses too. At least, a player or two that might currently be on opposing teams who can rush opposing quarterbacks. Seattle doesn’t need J.J. Watt (although that would be great) but they do need quality and not just quantity.

In return for Carlos Dunlap, the Seahawks sent B.J. Finney and a seventh-round pick in 2021 to the Bengals. Finney hasn’t played this season and was a backup at best. Seattle will have to pick up some of Dunlap’s contract but how much is not yet known. This will leave Seattle will little cap space but maybe they could find a way to create a bit more to get (trade Jacob Hollister?) to get one more piece of the pass-rushing puzzle.
