Seattle Seahawks November preview and predictions
By Jake Luppino
On Monday Night Football, we will be treated to a Wild Card rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles.
Monday, November 30, 2020: Week 12 — Seattle Seahawks @ Philadelphia Eagles
Last year, we saw our beloved Seattle Seahawks take on the Philadelphia Eagles twice. Both games were in Philly. The second came in the Wild Card round as the Seahawks successfully defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 17-9. This time around, the teams will meet on Monday Night Football, but, it once again be in Philly. Have no worries though as the Seahawks are warriors on the road, especially, on the east coast. The Seahawks will have extra time to prepare for this as they will be coming off a Thursday Night Football game.
I think it is safe to say that from here on out, no matter what happens to the Eagles, they will be in contention for the NFC East title. But, it is worth noting that TE Zach Ertz has been called about from other teams. As the trade deadline approaches, it will be interesting to see if Ertz remains on the team moving forward. He is up for a contract extension and from the sounds of things, it doesn’t seem to be working out at this given moment. Still, you can’t count out the Eagles in any game as they have that fighting spirit that truly embodies the city of Philadelphia.
Carson Wentz has proved he can win with less talent as last year, he willed an injury riddle Eagles team to the playoffs. The Eagles cannot be slept on as they have one of the better front fours in the NFL, led by interior defender, Fletcher Cox. But, their back end is a little weak — even though they traded for CB Darius Slay — and I see that making the ultimate difference in this matchup.
What Will Determine the Outcome: Russell Wilson will have a dangeRUSS game
Ironically, in both games against the Eagles, the final score was 17-9. In addition, the Seahawks also played the Eagles in Week 12 of last season. Although both games had the same scores, the Seahawks won in two different ways. The first, was led by the rushing attack. Rashard Penny was really starting to pick it up at this point. He led the way with 14 carries for 129 yards and 1 touchdown. At this point in the season, Penny should be back on the playing field as he is recovering from his ACL injury.
In the Wild Card matchup, it was the airing attack that led the way. Russell Wilson completed 18 of 30 for 325 yards and 1 touchdown. DK Metcalf broke the rookie record by catching 7 of 9 targets for 160 yards and 1 touchdown. Let’s be honest, thus far on the year, the Seahawks have opened up the offense more and have finally given Russ the keys. By this point in the year, Dorsett should be in the swing of things and Josh Gordon should finally be reinstated. Going up against a weakened secondary, expect Russ to be cooking all night long.
Also, keep in mind that the Seahawks usually play their best under the lights on national television. As alluded to earlier, the Seahawks tend to get better as the season progresses. Last year, when these two teams met, the Seahawks were 8-2. They won, and improved to 9-2. This year, I am predicting that when these two teams meet again, the Seahawks will be 8-2. They will win and improve to 9-2 once again in back-to-back years.
