The Seahawks outrush the 49ers

Wait, what? The 49ers have an amazing run-scheme, don’t have a lot of healthy receivers, Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t really that good and yet I still think the Seahawks, even with a banged-up running back group, somehow outrushes the 49ers? Yep, I do.

The reason is more about the Seattle defense than the San Francisco offense. Seattle is definitely going to be without cornerback Shaquill Griffin. Plus, Seattle is completely awful at putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks which gives teams time to throw and work their way down the field.

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan is too good of a coach to take what’s not handed to him on a silver platter. Seattle gives up tons of passing yards allowing, and not stopping, opposing teams from simply working their way downfield for scores. Shanahan might prefer to run the ball and eat clock, but if you have to choose between cake and broccoli you take the cake.

Seattle’s pass defense, because of injuries in the secondary and lack of pass rush, is cake. The 49ers will feast on what Seattle gives them in week 8 and Garoppolo will have by far his best game of the year. Maybe even the best game of his life because that is what the Seahawks defense gifts opposing quarterbacks in 2020.
