Defense

A+. . . Seattle Seahawks. DEFENSIVE LINE

The Seahawks dialed up the pressure and boy oh boy, they got home multiple times. Without Jamal Adams (sack leader) combined with their lack of pressure in the past couple of games, Coach Carroll decided to bring the house. Yesterday, was the first time this season, the defensive line played like a Super Bowl defensive line. What excites me is that we did that without Carlos Dunlap.

In the loss against the Cardinals, the Seahawks recorded 0 pressures. That is not acceptable if you want to go on and win a championship. In yesterday’s win over the Niners, the Seahawks recorded 3 sacks and 8 quarterback hits. The defensive line set the tone early, rattling Jimmy Garoppolo into some poor decisions with the football. Was very pleased with the way this front four played yesterday.

Seattle Seahawks. LINEBACKERS . A+. .

Bobby Wagner was unbelievable yesterday. The Seahawks were dependent upon Wagner yesterday to deliver on the blitzes and he answered the bell. Wagner finished the game with 6 tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 11 combo tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 4 quarterback hits and 2 sacks. He was simply all over the place. Week after week, the Niners were in the headlines for their great rushing attack as they strung together a couple of wins.

The Seahawks held them to just 52 rushing yards. KJ Wright, Jordyn Brooks, Cody Barton all contributed yesterday as they all swarmed around the ball. Barton made a nice play on special teams, forcing a fumble in the second half. Wright was doing his thing and this youngster, JB, is fast. Wagner set the tone early in this game.

. . Seattle Seahawks. SECONDARY . A+

In recent weeks, the 49ers were running a lot of jet motions. Mainly, because they wanted to keep the defense on their toes as they tried to get Jimmy G into a rhythm. It was no secret that he was struggling and in the past, Seattle has had a hard time slowing down that type of offense. Yesterday, with no Ugo Amadi, no Shaquill Griffin and no Jamal Adams, the Seahawks secondary absolutely balled out. CB DJ Reed made his season debut against his former team and had himself a day.

Early on, the Seahawks defense led the way, creating the turnover that shifted the momentum. After DJ Reed’s interception, the Seattle offense exploded and never looked back. The Seahawks did a great job of containing star TE, George Kittle. Kittle only had 2 catches for 39 yards. In recent weeks, Kittle has been dominating. With all the injuries throughout the early season, it feels to me that Seattle found themselves some developmental pieces in Ryan Neal and DJ Reed.
