The Seahawks made one of their best moves in years when they announced head coach Pete Carroll will be leading Seattle through 2025.

Okay 12s, I know the Seahawks didn’t exactly play their best game today. In fact, maybe they played one of their worst. But not all the news today was bad. This morning the Hawks announced the future was secure, by extending the contract of head coach Pete Carroll by another four years. This means Seattle’s all-time wins leader will be in place through 2025.

As the great Bob Condotta reported in The Seattle Times, the deal was actually completed earlier this year. Carroll apparently wanted to coach his beloved Seahawks for another five more years. This extension gives him those years, once added to his previous two-year deal that kept him in place through 2021. The details of coach’s contracts aren’t made public, not exactly, but it’s believed Coach Carroll will be earning about $11 million per year.

Pete Carroll earns extension

When I say earning, I mean it. Pete Carroll not only leads the next closest Seahawks coach by 20 victories (that would be Mike Holmgren), his .634 winning percentage is the only one over 60 percent. No other Seattle coach is close to Carroll in total wins or percentage. I know the loss today wasn’t exactly what we wanted.

But Pete Carroll has been so good, he could lose the next 24 games and still have the best winning percentage in Seahawks history. No one would be happy if the Hawks went winless for the rest of this season and oh-for-2021, no, but that’s just how good he’s been.

At the end of this extension, our head coach will be 74 years old. Will it finally be time for him to spit out the gum, and enjoy retirement? Maybe…or maybe he’ll just run for President. After all, he’ll just be entering his prime for that profession. Pete Carroll for whatever he wants to do!
