Seahawks versus Rams week 10: 3 quick impressions
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks lost to the Rams in week 10 and have now lost three of four games.
The Seahawks did not get blown out Sunday but the Rams even though I had a feeling they might. I don’t think the Rams are simply a better team than Seattle but Seattle is dealing with so many injuries. But while the Rams did not dominate from start to finish the final score of 23-16 also feels misleading. The game did not seem to ever be in doubt.
Here are three quick impressions from week 10.
The Seahawks and Russell Wilson need Chris Carson back
Each week where there is no Chris Carson it becomes clearer that Seattle needs Carson’s running ability and toughness when running. Carson adds a dimension that Seattle absolutely has to have to string wins together. Without any real threat from the running game, especially Carson’s kind of threat, Russell Wilson appears more forced to make plays that aren’t there.
Wilson needs to stop making the silly mistakes he has made in several games lately and getting Carson back soon should help.
Jason Myers is worth every penny
In 2019, Jason Myers was somewhat of a disappointment because he was brought in the fix the Seahawks kicking game and he had some issues. Not in 2020. Myers has attempted 45 kicks this year – 10 field goals and 35 extra points – and has missed just one of them, which was an extra point. On Sunday, Myers seemingly easily made a 61-yard field goal. In fact, Myers might have been Seattle’s best offensive player in week 10.
The defense might be getting better?
OK, this might be a reach. But Seattle was going up against a pretty good Rams offense that was relatively healthy entering the game. Los Angeles ended up with 23 points and 389 total yards. That amount of yards is the second-lowest the Seahawks have given up all season. This even though Seattle was without Shaquill Griffin and Quinton Dunbar at cornerback. Of course, a big test will come on Thursday when Seattle plays the Cardinals so we will see if the defense is actually getting better.
