Remain patent with this defense

Remember, the season is a marathon, not a race. In running a marathon, runners push through their tiredness and find a way to cross that finish line. The old saying goes, “where this is a will, there is a way.” Believe me, this Seahawks defense has a will. The two leaders Bobby Wagner and Jamal Adams are two of the more energetic guys in the NFL. Wagner has always been a great leader and Adams’ energy is so contagious. He is a great fit with the enthusiastic Pete Carroll.

Yesterday, the defense got off to a bad start. In the first three drives for the Rams, they went field goal, touchdown, touchdown. Remember, the Seahawks were without their two starting cornerbacks, Shaquill Griffin and Quinton Dunbar.

Ugo Amadi made his return to the field and was flying all over the place. DE Carlos Dunlap made a couple of nice plays along with DT Poona Ford. We saw Snacks Harrison make his debut with this Seattle team. The front four didn’t get as much pressure yesterday, but in recent weeks, they have shown flashes.

Despite the injuries to the secondary, the Seahawks defense put together a nice second half. In the first half, the Seahawks defense couldn’t get off the field as the Rams nearly converted on every single third-down attempt. But, the Seahawks went into the locker room at halftime and made some nice adjustments.

In the second half, the Rams offensive possessions went as follows: touchdown, punt, punt, punt. The Seahawks once again lost the turnover differential, but this defense showed some potential in the second half. Rookie LB Jordyn Brooks put together a nice game with 12 total tackles and 1 pass deflection. He has great speed and showed it off last night going sideline to sideline making tackles.

Jamal Adams once again stepped up. He had 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble. KJ Wright missed a couple of tackles early on but stepped it up in the second half. Again, I think Shaq and Dunbar were held off hoping the extra rest would have them ready to go on Thursday Night. This Seattle defense has been banged up all year.

The guys upfront and the guys in the back end haven’t spent enough time on the field together to develop chemistry. As we near the latter half of the season, the Seahawks defense will get healthy and will play enough games together so that they have developed the necessary chemistry just in time for the playoffs.

Remain patient 12s.
