D.K. Metcalf makes most memorable play from win against Jets
By Lee Vowell
D.K. Metcalf added to his growing list of memorable moments against the Jets Sunday.
D.K. Metcalf is now a year older than he was yesterday. On Monday, the Seahawks second-year receiver turned 23 years old. This was a day after D.K. Metcalf caught six passes for 61 yards and a touchdown against a terrible Jets defense. But as 12s all know, Metcalf is good against nearly everyone.
But on Sunday, it wasn’t specifically his 5-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter that was specifically memorable, it was what happened afterward. Metcalf jumped into the empty stands, took ownership of a CBS camera and did some untrained camera work. It was a joyful moment from a then-22 yard old and it was fun.
Fun
And to be honest, this is something the world needs more of currently: Fun. D.K. Metcalf did get flagged for the play for excessive celebration but he was in no way trying to show the Jets up (although I am pretty sure that last year’s LSU team could be this Jets team). Metcalf was simply having fun.
Someone on Twitter (probably several people did but this specific one was a 49ers fan whose handle is @KDGoat735) tweeted out that Metcalf was cocky. Maybe he is. I don’t know D.K. Metcalf personally. But this moment alone was not about cockiness. It was about being a young receiver in the NFL who had just scored a touchdown and was having some (this word again) fun.

But it gets better. The Seahawks also had a note ready that said, “DK…Happy Birthday!!” How awesome is that? Think about it. It’s your birthday, you go into your office or whatever you do, and your co-workers have a pre-made sign that says happy birthday. That is pretty nice, right? We should all be so lucky.
After Sunday, D.K. Metcalf now has 69 catches in 2020 and 1,180 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Seahawks still have three games to play this year. Metcalf could easily get to 1,400 yards. That is pretty great for a newly-turned 23-year-old who seems to be having fun at his job. We should all be so lucky.
