Washington’s defensive line

A big reason why Washington is doing better than anticipated this season is because of their defensive line that’s arguably the best in the league.

It starts off with their dynamic rookie pass rusher in Chase Young who they selected second overall in the past draft. Before the draft, all the talk around Young was how he could change the direction of a franchise and that he’s considered a generational talent. Well, he’s come just as advertised so far recording 35 tackles (26 solo) with nine of those going for a loss of yards, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles with one recovered and a touchdown which he got last week.

They have a veteran pass rusher in Ryan Kerrigan who has 95.5 career sacks to his name with 5.5 of those coming this season. The surprising part is that Kerrigan isn’t even a starter as he only played in more than half of defensive snaps three times this season.

Their other starting defensive lineman in Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Montez Sweat who was Washington’s first round pick in 2019 have combined for 11 sacks so far this season.

As a team, Washington has a combined 40 sacks which is tied for the fourth-most in the league with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Washington’s defensive line will attempt to cause as much havoc as they can for Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense.
