Special Teams

Seattle Seahawks. SPECIAL TEAMS . A. .

Punter Michael Dickson punted the ball four times in yesterday’s victory over Washington. All four of those punts landed inside the 20. Washington tried to return two of them but lost a net of -1 yard on the returns. While punt coverage is great, Dickson helps out by kicking the ball so high. He has been doing an excellent job all year long.

Kicker Jason Myers also came up big. He made both of his field goals, both of which were 40+ yards. He has been pretty reliable on the year, which is critical moving forward as 12s need to be confident in their kicker in the high leverage playoff moments.

The return game, while not perfect, appears to be in good hands with D.J. Reed. But the biggest question in the future is whether Seattle will want Reed to stay back for kicks. He is becoming more and more important as a cornerback and potentially a starter next season.

Next. Three things we learned about the Seahawks in their week 15 victory. dark

One thing I’ve noticed on the season is that LB Cody Barton is great at special teams. On nearly every kickoff, he is the one who makes the tackle. If you haven’t noticed, just pay attention to the kickoffs. You will see number 57 by the ball nearly every single time.
