2013: The Seahawks move on from Matt Flynn and trade up to draft Geno Smith

In the offseason, the Seahawks would still trade for Percy Harvin because offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell used to work with Harvin in Minnesota and believed that Harvin could help the offense. The Seahawks gave up their first-round pick for Harvin, but they would trade up in the second round to draft Geno Smith.

Pete Carroll, John Schneider, and Darrell Bevell would all preach that Smith has a chance to be the starter. After camp and the preseason Smith wins the job from Flynn and hope builds that he is the Seahawks franchise QB for the future.

However, Seahawks fans’ dreams would be crushed when Geno Smith has a horrible rookie season and ends up getting benched for Matt Flynn, who also struggles but plays well enough to help the best defense in the NFL go 11-5 and make the playoffs as a wild card.

Because of the number one ranked defense the Seahawks would defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round but would then lose in the divisional round against the Carolina Panthers. Now the Seahawks have a tough decision to make in the 2014 draft about what to do at quarterback.
