Potential Seattle Seahawks free agent target off the board

He would have been a great addition to the Seattle Seahawks defense
Despite strong play recently from the Seattle Seahawks defense, it’s still an area of weakness that will need to be addressed through the draft, free agency or trades for the 2021 season.
While the run stoppage has been strong all year, it’s the pass defense that at times, has held the team back from winning games and preventing the other team from scoring.
The Seahawks starting secondary currently consists of cornerbacks Shaquill Griffin and D.J. Reed Jr with safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. The safeties in Adams and Diggs are both good options to have on any team although the cornerback department could use some help.
One player the Seahawks may have had on their target list once the 2021 free agency period opens up is current New York Giants safety/cornerback Logan Ryan.
Last offseason, Ryan had to wait quite a while for a contract despite having a very good 2019 season with the Tennessee Titans. In 2019 playing as a cornerback, he recorded a career-high 113 tackles (73 solo) with 18 passes defended, 4.5 sacks, four interceptions and four forced fumbles along with eight quarterback hits.
Just nine days before the 2020 season started, he landed a one-year, $7.5 million deal with the Giants to play safety and has done well for the team this season. Heading into Week 17, he has 91 tackles (66 solo), an interception, nine passes defended, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a sack.
Ryan was set to hit free agency again until the Giants just came at him with a contract extension of three years and $31 million with $20 million guaranteed which he accepted.
If Ryan were to hit free agency in the coming offseason, he could have transitioned back to cornerback with the Seahawks and take over Reed Jr’s spot. As Ryan is an upgrade over Reed Jr, the Seahawks could either keep their current cornerback as a backup or use him as trade bait for draft assets.
Ryan would have been a huge improvement to the Seahawks secondary that’s dead last in the league in average amount of yards given up per game with 287.9. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, they will have to look for pass coverage help elsewhere.
