What injuries are the Seahawks dealing with after week 17?

The Seahawks suffered some key injuries in week 17 that could affect their playoff hopes that begin in Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Jarran Reed left with an oblique strain that was clearly causing him pain and his status is uncertain. Jamal Adams suffered a left shoulder injury that caused him to have to leave the victory over the 49ers on Sunday and not return.

Coach Pete Carroll said in his weekly radio show on 710 ESPN Seattle that Adams’ injury was severe but does not know whether it will keep the safety out of Saturday’s playoff game. Carroll said the team was waiting to see how Adams responded on Monday but that whether or not Adams would be able to play in his first ever postseason game would not be known until late in the week.

It is difficult to imagine Adams not trying to play on Saturday as he wanted to go back in to the 49ers game after the injury. And maybe Adams with one injured arm is still better than most players with two, but Seattle needs Adams to be at least 80 percent to be effective.

If Adams can’t play, Ryan Neal would take his place. Neal was a nice surprise when he played for Adams early in the season when Adams was out with his other shoulder being injured, but Neal is nowhere near as impactful as Adams.

Jarran Reed and some good news

Reed’s injury looks even more doubtful as Carroll said Reed was “pretty sore” and Carroll wasn’t sure if Reed would be able to play Saturday. While Poona Ford and Bryan Mone are good against the run, neither can replace Reed’s ability to get quarterback pressure from the interior of the line and that will be a problem for Seattle as long as they don’t have Reed.

In better news, the Seahawks should get back right tackle Brandon Shell and left guard Mike Iupati for Saturday’s game. As something simply seems off about Russell Wilson right now, keeping him protected well in the pocket is only going to help his decisiveness.
