Jamal Adams is going to be special in Seattle

The one bright spot moving forward for the Seahawks is that they will still have all-pro safety Jamal Adams next year. Adams missed a handful of games this season and still managed to break the record for most sacks by a defensive back in league history. In actuality, he even did that with some over looming injuries. After the Wild Card defeat, Jamal Adams made it clear he was going to be getting surgery in the offseason.

Toughness is a trait that not all possess. In the NFL as a safety, toughness is pretty much required. Especially, the way Jamal Adams plays. He refers to himself as a “weapon” and rightfully so as he can do nearly anything you ask of him on defense. Coming into this game, Adams made it clear he was going to be playing. But, most knew he wouldn’t be 100%. Although he is better than most at 75% or even 60%, the future is bright for Adams with this team.

In the beginning, many questioned his fit with the team as the defense struggled early on. But, in the second half of the season, as this defense began to surge, we saw Adams find his footing with this scheme. With K.J. Wright, Shaquill Griffin and Carlos Dunlap hitting the free-agent market, this defense may look different coming into the 2021 regular season. While I think Griffin and Wright will be retained, the future of this defense is bright with Jamal Adams and Bobby Wagner at the forefront.

Although it was a disappointing end to a rather successful season, the acquisition of Jamal Adams was worth all the picks they gave. Adams’ leadership and energy were contagious and inspired many of his teammates. Despite the critics, Adams — and the rest of this defense — continued to believe in the system and more importantly, in each other. He and Quandre Diggs have made a solid argument for the best safety duo in the NFL and I look forward to seeing what they are capable of next season.
