Seahawks should hire one of these three to be new offensive coordinator
By Lee Vowell
Eric Bieniemy
What? Leave Kansas City? Yes. If an NFL hasn’t already jumped at Bieniemy as their head coach (and why wouldn’t they have?) then maybe the stigma is that NFL brass sees him as a stooge to head coach Andy Reid’s scheme. But I think Bieniemy is a good coach himself and would want to make his mark in a different place other than KC if he doesn’t get offered a head coaching job.
Plus, Bieniemy has the experience of working with a quarterback who is mobile in Patrick Mahomes.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t see this move happening because Bieniemy has a great thing going in Kansas City and could be the offensive coordinator on two straight Super Bowl-winning teams should the Chiefs win the championship again this year. Plus, as I said the only real reason for leaving the Chiefs is if Bieniemy doesn’t get hired as a head coach somewhere soon and feels he needs to make his mark under a different head coach.
But also think about this. If Bieniemy were to come to the Seahawks and get anywhere close to the kind of sustained success he has had with the Chiefs, that only proves more what he could do as a head coach. Plus, Pete Carroll, while his contract was extended during the season, isn’t getting younger. If Seattle offers Bieniemy an offensive coordinator/assistant head coach position with the thought that he will take over after Carroll retires, it might be enticing enough for Bieniemy. (Plus, I can dream, right?)
