Analyzing the market value for the Seahawks top 7 free agents

Player 4: Shaquill Griffin, CB
Shaquill Griffin has been an enigma of a cornerback. He has had outstanding plays where you cannot help but think he is bound to be a sure-fire star. The next great shut-down corner, if you will. Then there are plays where you stare at the TV saying, what? How did the receiver get so open?
Coming into the season, fresh off a pro-bowl year, his only real draw was his lack of turnovers. Griffen has shown he can break-up up the pass. He has shown he can shadow number one wide receivers. However, it’s those key moments when the defense comes away with a turnover that helps ignite the team. This is where Griffin has struggled in past seasons. That next step to becoming a great defensive back.
However, this season those pros and cons changed. He had a career-high in interceptions (3). He kept the passes defended in double digits. However, it felt like some new cracks seem to form in his armor. This season we saw some laziness. We some broken coverages. Inability to consistently stay glued to the wide receiver.
We also saw some highlight reel pass breakups. I’m talking superman style fully laying out to break up the ball. Plays that very few in the NFL can make. Griffen is just 25 and is likely still looking ahead for his peak.
Extending Shaquill Griffin would be betting on the ability to get the most out of the player. After all, we know his ceiling is at a Pro Bowl level. The conundrum would be how to keep him playing there. The team needs to raise his floor to consistently get the level of production from one game to another.
Market valuation: 3 years, $30 million ($10 million per year).
Market comp: Kendall Fuller, Washington Football Team.
