The Seattle Seahawks are a good team that has turned into a perennial playoff contender that turns into a pumpkin early in the postseason. What’s wrong with the team that they cannot advance further? Is it coaching? Is it scheme? Or the players? One thing seems clear, though. The Seahawks need to improve their offensive line.

The truly sad part is how 12s (and me) might view some players. Seattle has Brandon Shell at right tackle and Ethan Pocic at center and both appeared to play decently for most of the year when they were healthy enough to play. Plus, Damien Lewis was pretty good as a rookie in 2020. But these players also might just be good enough to make the playoffs and not good enough to win a couple of playoff games and that’s an issue.

A team that basically gets stuck in the middle between decent and great is normally a team stuck in playoff purgatory where the fan base doesn’t feel like they should wear paper bags over their heads but also never feels the joy of winning a Super Bowl. That’s almost worse than missing the playoffs for a few years.

I am not saying that I wish the Seahawks were worse and had higher draft picks and potentially great players to fix a few holes. Seattle winning 10 to 12 games a year is no reason to be ashamed of your favorite team. But the problem for the Seahawks is that the Rams always seem to be Seattle and made the playoffs this year, the 49ers were amazingly injured and could be better than Seattle next year and the Cardinals are improving.

Five left guards

The Seahawks, if they don’t fix a few things, could finish last in the NFC West next year. Seattle currently has only 4 draft picks in the 2021 draft and they all must be good choices. One needs to be a left guard. Here are five offensive linemen that could help Seattle in 2021 and in the future.
