Gus Edwards, Baltimore: Restricted free agent

Anyone who knows me, knows I’ve been beating the get Gus Edwards to Seattle train for months. His style of play is vicious. He runs hard and runs through people. My style of play. He is a big body at 6’1” and 238 pounds.

Edwards is one of those players who simply helps move the chains. He has phenomenal contact balance. Pound for pound he can plow over just about any player 1. His field vision is quite adept. His hands are solid.

The most surprising trait for me would be his top line speed. Given his size I expected him to be a slower player that excels between the lines and struggled on the outside. That simply isn’t the case. He runs vertically similar to Rashaad Penny. He has the contact balance of Chris Carson with the size of Eddy Lacy.

I truly believe he is the best option in free agency. He has a lot of tread left on his tires due to being stuck in a running back by committee in a very talented RB group in Baltimore. I have very little doubt that he has the traits and ability to be a true number one running back.

2020 Stats:

Games Played: 11

Rushing Attempts: 137

Rushing yards: 718

Yards/Attempt: 5.0

Total Touchdowns: 6

It’s going to be tough to get him out of Baltimore though. The team just let go of Mark Ingram and only JK Dobbins is the other legit threat on the ground. It won’t surprise if the team slaps on a second or third-round tender to Edwards.

If the team taps on anything below that, I would jump on it 10 times out of 10. He is simply that good. If they do put a high tender on Edwards, it is time to look to the next candidate.

Suggested contract: 3 years, $15 million.
