4 running backs Seahawks should sign if Chris Carson walks
By Geoff Shull
Jamaal Williams, Green Bay: Unrestricted free agent (UFA)
Think of this as a do-over. Many analysts, including myself, pegged Jamaal Williams as a guy the Seahawks were going to take. They looked like a match made in heaven. Williams plays with a brilliant blend of power and elusiveness.
Williams does well to keep his legs moving after contact and almost always falls forward. He is more than capable of breaking multiple tackles succinctly. His pass-catching has vastly improved over his 4 years in Green Bay. In fact, he has been the predominant pass-catching back for green bay over the last 4 years.
He is a solid combination of running back and wide receiver. More than capable of playing all 3 downs for the Seahawks. The only hesitation I have is with his pass blocking. I am not saying it’s bad. However, it could use some work.
2020 Stats:
Games Played: 14
Rushing Attempts: 119
Rushing yards: 505
Yards/Attempt: 4.2
Targets: 35
Receptions: 31
Total Touchdowns: 3
Suggested contract: 2 years, $9 million.
Consider this a do-over. The Seahawks were constantly connected to Williams in the pre-draft process. Seattle was also burned last time they gambled on an ousted Green Bay running back. This contract is short enough to safeguard the team. It also offers enough to likely get a deal done.
