The Seattle Seahawks 2021 season might have gotten a little tougher now that the Los Angeles Ram have traded quarterback Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford plus the Rams bargained their future by giving the Lions first-round draft picks in 2022 and 2023, a third-round pick in 2021 (Jamal Adams to Seahawks anyone?). Not that the Rams are ever an easy game for the Seahawks but Stafford should make the Rams even better.

The issue for the Rams long-term is how they handle their salary cap and are anywhere from $20-31 million over the 2021 salary cap. This means they would have to cut some good players to be under the cap. 2022 might be a bit better if Matthew Stafford is willing to restructure his deal but 2021 will be a mess.

To be fair, I couldn’t care less about how this affects the Detroit Lions salary cap as the Seahawks will not face the Lions very much and are not an NFC West team.

But does Stafford make the Rams much better in 2021? This is what 12s think and what they think of the trade.

I asked via 12th Man Rising’s Twitter feed, what 12s thought of the trade and this is what they had to say.

The great Maurice always has good thoughts. I think he is spot on here. Rams fans have to be happy with a GM that wants to win a Super Bowl and win one now. Maybe it won’t work out but can’t blame the Rams for trying.

This is a good tweet. Sees things from all sides and does so well.

Agreed. The Rams might get huge upside from this but what they gave up in draft capital is massive and might make them worse in four years and beyond.

Very succinct here. Good tweet. Rams coach Sean McVay could figure out a way to have Stafford fit his system and make the Rams a Super Bowl team. The contrast to this makes the Rams not good sooner rather than later.

Next. Top prospects at each position for Seahawks in 2021 draft. dark

This might be my favorite reaction and the most Seahawks one. Sure, maybe the Rams got better in the short-term but if you are a 12 what does it matter. You want Seattle to beat whichever team is in front of them. To paraphrase Moises, bring it on.
