There should be no reason for Seahawks fans to dislike Pete Carroll

While there is a seeming rift between Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson, Seahawks fans shouldn’t dislike either one as Carroll leads the team to much success. Seattle fans seem to be getting a bit more spoiled, to be fair, on what their favorite team does year in and year out. I say this because I am also a 12 and was before the team got good.

The team is good for a lot of reasons. Hating Carroll over Wilson with the success that the Seahawks have had over the last 9 seasons is a bit like saying one hates John Lennon and loves Paul McCartney but when in reality they are different people and approach things differently but work perfectly together. (Or for the younger group saying one hates Johnny Marr more than Morrissey and that’s just weird.)

Besides, hating Pete Carroll, well isn’t that just a bit ageist? Do those who dislike him simply dislike him because he is old? Maybe he likes a certain kind of “old-fashioned” football but that certain kind of football still wins football games in general so maybe the issue is the execution of the game plan instead of the game plan itself?

Seahawks success with Pete Carroll

Before Pete Carroll came to the Seahawks in 2010 the team had had 5 10-win seasons in franchise history. Since he came to Seattle the team has had 8 10-plus win years. Maybe there’s a reason Seattle is as successful as it is and maybe it is not simply because Russell Wilson is the quarterback.

Or maybe one thinks that Carroll is losing his grip and a lot of his teams won against lesser competition but I would direct someone to the fact that the Seahawks won 12 games in the regular season of this past year and that was including the fact that Russell Wilson stunk in the last half of the year.

dark. Next. What could Seahawks get in return for Russell Wilson?

Possibly Carroll does need to be more accountable for early-postseason exits the last few years. It is one thing to make the playoffs and quite another to win once in the postseason. Possibly a better coach would have won more postseason games but there are few coaches who have been as successful as Pete Carroll and lots of fanbases who would rather have Carroll as their favorite team’s head coach instead of the one their team has. Pete Carroll is a good coach. Period.
