Melvin Ingram

Like Clowney, Melvin Ingram had zero sacks in 2020. This is really weird considering Ingram had at least 7 each season from 2015 through 2019. So what happened last year? No idea. Yes, Ingram played only 7 games due to injury and he only had 5 quarterback hits but in 2019 Ingram had just 12 quarterback hits but had 7 sacks so Ingram simply wasn’t able to get home for whatever reason.

Let’s throw out 2020 then as it is an outlier in comparison to most of the rest of his career. Ingram will be 32 years old at the beginning of the 2021 season so he isn’t yet old and if Seattle signs him to a one-year deal then Ingram probably will want to prove himself to a 2022 deal. A motivated player should be a productive player.

But even in 7 games, Ingram was the 27th-best graded edge rusher last year, per Pro Football Focus. A lot of this grade was due to his pass-rush grade of 76.3 which ranked 19th in the NFL. Ingram is still a good player and would be a boon to the Seahawks quarterback pressures in 2021.

There might be some team that overpays for Ingram but maybe Seattle will get lucky. And who knows, maybe if Wilson does get restructured then Seattle can bring in Jadeveon Clowney and Ingram? (I can dream.)
