Playoff appearances since 2012

The franchises that have appeared in five or more playoff appearances since 2012 are Seattle and New England with eight each, the Packers and the Chiefs with seven apiece and the Colts, Ravens and Saints with five each. Whilst it is undoubtedly true that Wilson is a large reason for this year-to-year high level of franchise achievement, it is not entirely down to him.

What this shows is that Wilson is with a franchise that can make the playoffs and therefore present the opportunity for further success year after year. After all, you cannot win anything without making the playoffs.

As I have said earlier, Wilson has a point in identifying and emphasizing deficiencies with the current roster, he surely also knows that the Seahawks track record of addressing such issues and providing him with a supporting cast capable of making the playoffs is as good or better than any other franchise.

With the Rams, 49ers and Cardinals upping the ante in the NFC West with the high-profile additions to their rosters recently, this could well be a pivotal year for the Seahawks. This also provides Wilson with an opportunity to really push himself and his teammates to even higher levels of performance in  2020, which would prepare them for a deep run in the playoffs.

If however, the Seahawks fail to perform to the level of previous seasons and miss out on the playoffs for only the second time in Wilson’s tenure then this could trigger a rebuild of the roster from 2022 onwards.
