Target number 2: Richard Sherman, CB

This is the player that fans are pushing for the most. It is understandable why. He is a leader of men. He plays with incredible fire. He was the vocal leader of one of the best defenses the NFL has ever known.

I do want to temper expectations here somewhat. From what we know, Richard Sherman is looking to play 2 more seasons before retiring. He has been injured in 2 of the last 4 seasons and hasn’t played a full season in 5 years.

Teams love how he can help elevate the play on the field. He can guide young players and show them the ropes. Most importantly, he brings a winning mentality and one of the best football minds of this generation to the field/locker room.

The issue here is likely two-sided for Seattle. First, he is not going to be cheap. Second, the defense is trying to rebuild around a young core. Hence, K.J. Wright still brings a free agent and the youth at the linebacker spot. This signing would go against the very youth movement the team has been building.

Nevertheless, he is an incredibly talented player who serves almost a coach-like role to the younger players. Having him around should be able to elevate the roster. It would be expensive, but bringing Sherman home has the chance to shore up the shakiest of the position groupings left.

Contract estimate: 2 years, $13 million.
